Security Officer

Under general supervision, but according to prescribed procedures, is responsible for the safety and protection of patients, visitors, staff, property, buildings, and grounds. Experience in security, corrections, law enforcement, military, or fire/EMS departments is preferred.

• Must be willing and able to work unscheduled hours based on the needs of the department.
• Must possess written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public in a professional manner; must use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
• Must read, understand, implement, and execute GBMC Security strategies as depicted in the GBMC Security policies, procedures, and practices.
• Must complete understanding of security training program requirements upon new hire onboarding and maintain them throughout employment.
• Must successfully utilize the electronic dispatch system to generate calls for service and complete reports.
• Remain flexible to ever‑changing environments; adapt well to different situations.
• Proficient in nonviolent crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques to keep staff, patients, visitors, and others safe, calm, and respected while onsite.
• Must maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standards.
• Must present a neat and professional appearance.
• Must demonstrate understanding of verbal and written direction, maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, including stressful situations.
• Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.
• Must handle pressure of working with high‑volume public (ranging from constant to occasional depending on assignment).
• Must immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers.
• Must operate a variety of machines and equipment, including automobiles, office equipment, radio, telephone, visitor management system, access control system, and CCTV.
• Must contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adhere to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards; must comply with governmental and accreditation regulations.

• Must hold a Current State Driver's License, which must be maintained throughout employment.
• Must complete post‑hire mandatory training courses, including CPR/RQI, Stop the Bleed, and de‑escalation within two weeks of employment; must maintain RQI throughout employment.
• Must possess a Maryland Security Guard license or must file for one within the first two weeks of employment and must obtain the license within the first 90 days.
• Must complete mandatory EMTALA training within the probationary period prior to independent work.
• Must complete mandatory GBMC Workplace Violence Prevention Training within the new hire period prior to independent work.
