Job Summary

Senior MT Maintenance Mechanic – The Maintenance Mechanic Sr-Academic performs semi‑skilled general maintenance and preventive maintenance work, applying general knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques, materials, tools, and equipment. The role may work independently on assigned shifts under general supervision.

Responsibilities and Duties

Daily inspection of all building components and equipment in the assigned areas. Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems and structural components of buildings and equipment. Respond to requests and troubleshoot problems. Assist area maintenance mechanics as needed.

Inspect mechanical and structural components to ensure operational readiness and safety of related equipment and determine repairs. Make necessary repairs to all building components and systems, obtaining assistance from senior personnel when required.

Prepare recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status. Complete and update logs, charts, and service manuals. Prepare estimates of time and material required for assigned tasks. Report deficiencies and safety problems to senior personnel.

Ensure adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained in assigned areas. Operate and maintain tools and equipment of the assigned area. Clean work area upon completion of assignment.

Assist journeyman‑level trades personnel in skilled maintenance and repair work, including new construction and renovation projects.

Serve in other maintenance areas performing duties as required, including during vacations, weekends, or emergencies.

Qualifications and Skills

Four years of related work experience, three of which must have been in the trade area where assigned.

Driver's license required.

Additional related experience and formal education may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis, with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

General knowledge and skill in a variety of semi‑skilled building construction or maintenance and repair practices in the trade areas assigned; knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to those areas; and skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade. Ability to inspect, adjust, repair, and replace building fixtures and mechanical equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively, prepare estimates, apply quality and safety standards, complete logs and reports, and work in and around fixed equipment or machinery.

Work at heights up to 35 feet; manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies, and exert up to 70 lbs; work concurrently with multiple controls on machinery and equipment; work in hazardous or irritation environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; wear and work in personal protective equipment.

This is an essential position. The standard workday is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. The position requires working weekends on a rotational basis.

Salary and Benefits

$45,375 annually and full University benefits, including annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days, excellent health, life, and retirement plans, and tuition remission. Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit. When applicable, a 2.5% increase may be added to the annual salary, pending successful completion of the initial six‑month probationary period.
