Maintenance Mechanic Lead (260000ID)

Maintenance Mechanic Lead performs semi‑skilled general maintenance and/or preventive maintenance work. The lead mechanic directs other mechanics in the performance of their assignments and serves as the first‑line supervisor for the Area Maintenance chief.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Daily inspection of all building components and equipment within the assigned areas.
  • Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems, structural components, building equipment, and related systems.
  • Respond to all related requests and troubleshoot problems.
  • Assist area maintenance mechanics on tasks as required.
  • Serve as lead worker and backup for the Area Maintenance chief, supervising area maintenance mechanics as needed.
  • Lead and train unskilled or semi‑skilled maintenance personnel; help determine work priorities, plan, schedule, assign, and review work.
  • Inspect mechanical and structural components, ensure operational readiness and safety of related equipment, and determine repairs.
  • Make necessary repairs to all building components and systems, obtaining assistance from senior personnel when required.
  • Prepare recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status; complete and update logs, charts, and service manuals.
  • Prepare estimates of time and material required for assigned tasks.
  • Report deficiencies and safety problems to senior personnel.
  • Ensure adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained in assigned areas.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment of the area as assigned; clean work area upon completion of assignment.
  • Assist journey‑level trades personnel in skilled maintenance and repair work; participate in new construction and renovation work.
  • Serve in other maintenance areas performing maintenance duties as required, including during vacations, weekends, or emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Four years related work experience, three of which must have been in the trade area where assigned.
  • A non‑commercial Class C driver’s license (or equivalent).
  • Substitution of additional related experience and formal education on a year‑for‑year basis with 30 college credits equivalent to one year of experience.
  • General knowledge and skill in a variety of semi‑skilled building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques used in the trade areas assigned.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to the assigned trade areas.
  • Skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Skill in inspection, adjustment, repair, and replacement of building fixtures and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, to communicate effectively, and to prepare estimates of time and material required for assigned work.
  • Ability to apply quality and safety standards, to complete logs and prepare records and reports.
  • Ability to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment or machinery, at heights up to 120 feet; manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies, and/or exert force for up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; work in hazardous or irritant environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions.
  • Wearing and working in personal protective equipment.
Standard Workday

Monday‑Friday, 7:00 am‑3:30 pm with rotating weekends. This is an Essential Position and may also be placed on call status.

Salary and Benefits

$48,138 annually and full University benefits that include annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission. Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit. When applicable, a 2.5 % increase may be added to the annual salary, pending successful completion of the initial six‑month probationary period for this position.
