Schedule:

40 hours per week.

A vacancy exists in the Office of Information Technology, Division of Electronic Services. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Under general supervision, installs and performs routine repair and maintenance on mobile and base station two-way radio-telephone equipment and public safety emergency lighting equipment.

  • Installs antennas, transmission lines, wires, cables, radios and other electronic equipment in vehicles, on towers, or on other structures.
  • Determines causes of radio equipment failure.
  • Programs communications equipment.
  • Installs other interconnecting electrical and electronic equipment, electronic sirens, intercom and public address systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on electronic equipment.
  • Assists in the development of estimates for equipment installation and modification.
  • Documents work performed.
  • Installs and assists in testing, repairing and maintaining security and fire alarm equipment and associated devices.
  • Assists in the development of estimates for equipment installations and modification.
Examples of Other Duties
  • Tests and assists in repair of gasoline and diesel emergency power generators.
  • Cleans generators and performs other preventive maintenance work. May lead or instruct lesser skilled workers.
  • May lead or instruct lesser skilled workers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Two years' experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of two-way radio communications equipment or security and fire alarm equipment or in closely related electronics work.

Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)
  • Knowledge of mobile and base station radio-telephone equipment installation and maintenance techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of security and fire alarm installation techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in use of manual and power tools used to install electronic equipment.
  • Ability to interpret wiring schematics, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to maintain simple records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance)
  • Knowledge of operation, installation, and maintenance techniques for County radio, alarm, and related electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing performance of duties.
  • Skill in interpreting schematics, blueprints, and sketches for the installation and maintenance of County electronic equipment.
  • Ability to lead or instruct others. Ability to understand the operation of digital equipment.
Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
