Park Technician Supervisor/ Historic Trades Corps Crew Leader is the supervisory level of maintenance work in state parks and forests. Employees in this class have responsibility for the supervision and maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment within a park, forest or recreation area that are historically or culturally relevant, performing maintenance work and overseeing the preservation, rehabilitation, and maintenance of historic sites and structures.

Employees in this classification supervise lower-level Park Technicians and Park Technician Leads, specifically, crews of DSCI Historic Trades Corps members performing those functions. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Headquarters-based Program Administrator, Cultural and Historical Planning Team member, Park Maintenance Program Supervisor or other designated official depending upon the specific project and its location. An employee in this classification will lead or supervise skilled, unskilled or semi-skilled laborers, including Historic Trades Corps members, permanent employees, long-term contractual employees, seasonal employees and volunteers, to include scheduling and planning employees’ work assignments, as well as performing maintenance work.

While maintenance of historic sites and structures in park, forest or wildlife grounds is the primary function of this position, employees may occasionally be assigned other operational functions. Park Technician Supervisor/ Historic Trades Corps Crew Leader is differentiated from Park Technician Lead in that the Park Technician Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower-level Park Technicians or individuals fulfilling those functions as DSCI Historic Trades Corps crew members while the Park Technician Lead assigns, reviews, and approves the work of and trains lower-level Park Technicians.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for a Park Technician Supervisor/Historic Trades Corps Crew Leader based out of DNR Headquarters in Annapolis, with primary day to day functions performed at Morgan Run Natural Environmental Area and around the State. The Historic Trades Corps aims to improve the condition of Maryland State Parks' historic structures while providing young adults with a pathway to secure employment through meaningful service.

This position will be responsible for supervising, leading, training, and instructing a crew of 4-6 Historic Trades Corps service members in the performance of duties maintaining and restoring historic sites and structures, by providing daily oversight through written and verbal instructions, on-site supervision and follow-up. This position also coordinates team projects, purchases supplies and materials, oversees the Historic Trades Corps workshop, and works closely with the headquarters Corps management team to implement the program.

The position supervises and performs maintenance and repair work for historic buildings and facilities, which may include carpentry, window repair, masonry, roofing, demolition, plaster work, plumbing, electrical, and other types of work such as mothballing and cleaning. This position may oversee preservation specialists and technicians hired to perform work or provide training for crew members. This position prepares or reviews projects, procures supplies and materials, tracks and administers agreements, supervises contractors and coordinates with DNR and Park staff to complete maintenance work.

While the supervision of the Historic Trades Corps crew and maintenance of historic park buildings and sites are the primary functions of this position, the selected candidate may also assist with Park special events and training, interpretive programs or other Conservation Corps activities such as those that involve environmental conservation.
