. This volunteer position is on‑call (temporary) and reports to the Victim Assistance Coordinator in the Police Department. No salary; volunteers give their time to serve the community.
Under broad supervision, Volunteer Victim Advocates provide victim advocacy and on‑call support to the four participating jurisdictions—Firestone, Frederick, Dacono, and Mead. This position works closely with victims and their families, witnesses, police officers, detectives, and court personnel to offer victim assistance and advocacy services. Volunteers provide immediate crisis intervention, individual and family support, information about the criminal justice system, Victim Rights, and resources/referrals.
EssentialDuties
- Provide victim assistance and advocacy services for residents in all four cooperating agencies.
- Work closely with victims, families, witnesses, police officers, detectives, and court personnel.
- Respond on‑call to emergencies and assist police officers as needed.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork.
- Attend monthly meetings for ongoing training.
- Complete at least four 12‑hour on‑call shifts per month.

- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Pass a comprehensive background check and CVSA.
- Commit to at least 12 months.
- Live within Frederick, Firestone, Dacono, or Mead (or within 30 minutes of town limits).
- Be willing to respond to all four jurisdictions.
- Have a working phone and be easily reachable while on call.
- Have consistent personal transportation.
- Complete 40 hours of initial training provided by the Carbon Valley, Mead Victim Services Program, and other participating victim services programs.
- Shadow another staff or volunteer advocate for at least four shifts.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, volunteers are regularly required to talk, see, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, touch, or feel. They must also stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Most work is performed in the field and may expose volunteers to all weather conditions—including extreme heat, extreme cold, sun, wind, and snow. The noise level is usually moderate.
