Lead Embedded Software Engineer - Hybrid
Towson, MD United States

Lead Embedded Software Engineer role with hybrid work arrangement. This position supports our Product Execution team based in Towson, MD and involves collaboration with Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability and Regulatory teams. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience in low-level embedded firmware design, problem solving, debugging, and mentoring others.

• Design and develop power electronic firmware and specifications for ABLDC motor controls for power tools, Li-ion battery management, and chargers.
• Implement and validate electronic designs through software development, testing, and simulation.
• Develop software verification and validation procedures using unit and integration tests.
• Provide leadership in achieving cost, performance and quality objectives of all related electronic systems, components, and sub-assemblies.
• Develop solutions for electronic system related issues as an integral member of a larger team.
• Maintain appropriate documentation for work performed.
• Translate customer requirements into software specifications and translate high-level goals into individual work items.
• Develop and maintain a schedule to track progress toward objectives within deadlines and effectively communicate status to stakeholders.
• Embrace cross-functional teamwork and participate in peer design and code reviews.
• Train and mentor junior team members.

• BSEE, BSCS, BSCE or equivalent (4 years) from an accredited computer/electrical engineering college.
• 10+ years of experience with electronics, software development, and embedded firmware.
• 5+ years of hands-on embedded system (bare metal) design.
• Extensive knowledge of developing embedded 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers in C, C++, or ASM; ARM architectures preferred; assembly language experience is a plus.
• Experience with closed-loop control and feedback systems for AC and BLDC motors.
• Familiarity with lithium-ion battery powered systems and motor control techniques (sensored and sensorless trapezoidal).
• Experience with common microcontroller peripherals (timers, GPIO, watchdog, ADC, UART, DMA).
• Strong understanding of embedded software concepts (hard real-time processing, scheduling, multitasking, interrupts, race conditions, RTOS).
• Familiar with software development processes and controls (static analysis, version control, unit testing, bug tracking).
• Experience with debugging (in-circuit debugger or equivalent).
• Ability to approach software development with a system-level view and travel to interface with overseas electronic contract manufacturers as needed.
• Experience with Agile or waterfall development processes.

• Master’s degree (or higher) in Engineering from an accredited curriculum.
• Prior experience with embedded software development for motor drives.
• Prior experience with connected products including IoT (Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.).
• Technology and product strategy experience.
