ESSENTIAL TASKS
Operates heavy equipment to construct, maintain and repair paved and unpaved County roads, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, ditches, catch basins and storm drainage systems.
Operates heavy equipment to maintain public rights-of-way.
Operates heavy equipment to assist other divisions and departments as necessary, including but not limited to maintaining County landfills.
Manually loads and unloads materials onto vehicles; transports equipment and materials to and from work sites.
Uses hand and power tools in various manual tasks as required.
Inspects equipment to ensure proper and safe working condition; reports defects or required maintenance to the supervisor.
Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
Maintains accurate and complete work records as required.
May operate dump trucks and other equipment.
INVOLVEMENT WITH DATA, PEOPLE, AND THINGSDATA INVOLVEMENT:
Requires comparing or inspecting items against a standard.
PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:
Requires speaking or signaling to people to convey or exchange information of a general nature.
THINGS INVOLVEMENT:
Requires leading, operating or repairing complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience, such as light or heavy construction/specialized equipment.
Involves operations of limited scope.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATIONVOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
Requires high school diploma, GED equivalent or specialized vocational training.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess a valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements or obtain a CDL permit within 3 months after date of hire. Must obtain CDL (Class “B”) with appropriate endorsements within 6 months after date of hire. Total 3 months for permit and 3 months for CDL license within 12 months of hire.
Must possess CDL license to be hired as Equipment Operator I; without a CDL license the applicant will be considered a maintenance worker.
Experience Requirements:
Requires over six months and up to and including one year.
