Directs the organization responsible for activities related to cost accounting.
Ensures the organization is aligned to outlined strategies and requirements for cost accounting.
Also responsible for departmental and interdepartmental planning as well as the training and leadership of staff members.
Job DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops, installs, and monitors cost control systems and accounting activities.
- Establishes GAAP compliant policies and procedures for inventory and standard cost for the company, including interpretation of applicable regulations.
- Interprets and disseminates cost accounting information to management, and Business Units, including LIFO calculations and forecasts.
- Provides forecast estimates to business teams in support of their individual R&O's.
- Manages the compilation of cost data for use in developing operating budgets and BU P&Ls.
- Manages cost audits as well as the preparation and analysis of cost reports.
- Standardizes and leads cost accounting best practices' implementation across the organization.
- Manages physical inventories and the maintenance of inventory records.
- Analyzes inventory records and variance reports.
- Implements a successful vision/strategy, through strong leadership skills.
- Develops or approves recommendations to change systems, policies, and procedures; ensures timely and accurate implementation.
- Participates in department and interdepartmental planning and management teams and works cross-functionally to improve processes within the organization.
- Plans manpower requirements.
- Identifies and obtains staff capabilities needed to accomplish objectives.
- Monitors and ensures achievement of performance goals and objectives either directly or through subordinate staff.
- Oversees and handles projects that have short to long term focus.
- Balances planning efforts with day to day demands.
- Ensures employee conformance to established best practices and proper training of staff.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, coaches and mentors subordinate staff.
- Conducts performance evaluations; recommends salary adjustments; rewards employees or takes disciplinary action, as necessary; addresses complaints and resolves issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting plus 8 years cost accounting experience with standard costing, cost flow, cost accounting system variances and building cost accounting models, controls and procedures, inventory valuation and reconciliation reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting plus 10 years of cost accounting experience with standard costing, cost flow, cost accounting system, variances and building cost accounting models, controls and procedures in a manufacturing environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
- Experience with JD Edwards.
- Experience working with cost accounting intricacies of a vertically integrated company.
- Experience and comfort working with auditors.
- Experience managing against deliverables.
- Demonstrated leadership and work with all levels and functions within the Company.
- Experience with Outlook Soft for planning and analysis.
- Experience with process mapping and driving costing process changes.
- Experience managing between staff and management (translates/simplifies complex scenarios into key points).
- Public Accounting, CPA, MBA desirable.
