Science Olympiad Coach
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Olympiad Coach to build and lead competitive Science Olympiad teams for Grades 3–6. Science Olympiad features 23 STEM-related events where students work in pairs to build devices for on-site testing, study for core knowledge challenges, and prepare for hands-on lab experiments. This position is ideal for teachers, college students, parents, or STEM professionals who love science and want to make a difference.
Time Commitment: 2–4 hours per week after school (October–April), plus additional time for required trainings, after-hours, and weekend competitions.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
- Organize and lead weekly after-school practices.
- Encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and scientific curiosity among students.
- Guide students in science, engineering, and problem-solving event preparation.
- Attend all county, regional, and state competitions with the team.
- Maintain accurate student sign-in sheets for every practice.
- Coordinate equipment, materials, logistics, and communication with parents and school staff.
- Attend required teacher training sessions and county/regional Science Olympiad meetings.
Minimum
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Strong interest or background in STEM, science education, or extracurricular competition.
- Experience working with elementary and middle school students is recommended.
- Passionate about science/STEM education.
- Organized, dependable, and collaborative.
- Background in science, engineering, or teaching is a plus.
- Must commit to weekly after-school practices and weekend competition events during the October–April season.
