Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Shelter Services, the Janitor will clean assigned areas regularly and assist in maintaining overall standards of cleanliness in the shelter.

• Cleaning of all corporation shelter building.
• Vacuuming all carpeted areas.
• Sweeping and mopping all hard surfaced flooring.
• Dusting all surfaces including office desks, counters and windowsills, light fixtures, etc.
• Trash collecting for entire building campus.
• Bathroom cleaning of toilets, floors, counters, sinks, showers, and mirrors within the facility.
• Replenish bathroom supplies as needed in common area.
• Assist in the dorms, helping clients with changing of rooms, cleaning out rooms when CTs move out, etc.
• Keeping inventory of all janitorial supplies.
• Daily communication with all Shelter staff.
• Assist with pickup of supplies as needed.
• Perform any other work necessary to maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of the campus.
• Coordinate and manage multiple duties.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Shelter Services.

• Prioritize work and multi‑task simultaneous projects.
• Be cordial, friendly, and professional.
• Possess maturity and confidentiality.
• Communicate effectively and accurately.
• Read, write, and speak English is required; bilingual skills are a plus.
• Have good interaction skills.
• Interact professionally with the public and Salvation Army officers and staff.
• Must possess a valid California Class C driver license and be able to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
• Must be 21 years of age or older to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
• Must complete the Salvation Army vehicle course training.

• Education in social services/substance abuse helpful.
• Experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering, or personal experience helpful.
• Training or experience in informal mental health/ substance abuse evaluation helpful.

• High school graduate or equivalent GED.
• Experience with disadvantaged populations helpful.

• Frequent lifting of 30 pounds or more.
• Frequent climbing of ladders, pushing, pulling of mop/brooms.
• Good mobility with the ability to climb, crawl, bend and have good dexterity for grasping, reaching, and handling.

Basic janitorial supplies including mops and brooms, floor‑cleaning machines and vacuum cleaners, chemical mixing, etc.
