Overview
General Maintenance Worker CBA Contract
The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work. Work involves a variety of duties including replacing electrical components, patching walls, repairing plumbing, painting, and general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
ResponsibilitiesPerform facilities repair and preventive maintenance requiring mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, loading dock doors, signs, fuels, sheet metal, masonry, roofing, electronic, generators, carpentry and plastering maintenance and repair.
Assist skilled plumbers, electricians and other maintenance staff in performing more complex maintenance, repair and construction activities.
Paint buildings and equipment, patch plaster walls and repair or replace tiles and other wall coverings.
Repair and construct wood and metal equipment, furniture, doors, shelves, floors, security screens and other fixtures.
Replace electrical receptacles, switches, bulbs, fixtures and motors
Open blocked sewage and drain lines; replace or repair faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, water lines and other plumbing equipment and fixtures.
Repair roofs, gutters, and downspouts
Maintain and repair base-entrance security barriers and arms
Repair and replace electrical outlets, light fixtures, switches and other controls, repair electrical motors.
Working knowledge of machines, equipment, materials, and operating practices.
Repair, adjust and calibrate a wide variety of machines and equipment such as general office equipment, electronic equipment, kitchen appliances, etc.
Be familiar with the Quality Control/Customer Satisfaction Plan (QC/CSP) requirements and perform QC/CS actions as required.
Follow written and verbal instructions.
May be required to participate in an on-call schedule
Perform duties unrelated to the job classification as needed.
Perform other related work as assigned.
Education
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or its equivalent. May be substituted with 5 years of direct experience in general maintenance and repair activities.Experience
General:
Requires 2 years’ experience in general maintenance and repair activities. Work includes preventive maintenance activities, assisting skilled trade’s workers and/or repairing various equipment and structures. Possess specific knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures used in maintenance and repair.
Specific:
Requires 2 years’ experience in general maintenance and repair activities. Possess the ability to perform complex assignments, independence in carrying out tasks and responsibility for the final completion of work. Work involves reading drawings and detailed sketches and requisitions needed materials. Direction is received from Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the standard tools and practices of the various trades such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, railroad maintenance, dock leveling, signs, fuels, sheet metal, masonry, roofing, electronic, generators, carpentry and plastering.
Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of mechanical and building trades.
Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints and penciled layouts.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to instruct and direct the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers.
Be capable utilizing a respirator if required.
Required Licenses and
