We’re looking for an Electric Utility Distribution Electrician/Lineman at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Site 300 located in Tracy, California. You will perform a variety of specialized journey‑level electrical functions including maintenance, operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities on medium‑voltage and high‑voltage electric utility systems and equipment. This position is in the Electric Utility Division of the Infrastructure Maintenance & Utilities Department.

This position requires full‑time on‑site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will

  • Perform journey‑level electrical work.
  • Perform maintenance, switching operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning work on overhead pole‑lines, transformers, switches and other electrical equipment used in the overhead distribution of electric power at the 15kV and 115kV voltage levels.
  • Work with other craft personnel and provide technical guidance.
  • Provide effective and timely customer service to clients and team members.
  • Prepare and deliver reports; fill out preventative maintenance requests, deficiency reports, and work orders using a personal computer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; completion of apprenticeship program in the electrician trade or equivalent experience.
  • Basic journey‑level skills, knowledge and abilities in the electrician trade, including proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade including operating and working from a utility‑type high‑reach bucket truck and digger‑derrick.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain, operate, install, repair, replace, test, troubleshoot, and commission transformers, switches, conductors, power‑poles, and associated pole‑mounted equipment and hardware used in the overhead distribution of electric power at the 15kV and 115kV voltage levels.
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical, administrative, and management personnel.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and associated software to prepare logs and reports, send and receive e‑mails, perform computer‑based training, and timekeeping entry.
  • Ability to work scheduled, on‑call, and emergency overtime.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience in substation maintenance and operations.
  • Experience reading electrical diagrams, testing protective relays, and working from drawings.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and OSHA safety regulations.

Pay Range

$53.01 - $64.43 hourly

This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement and step structure. Step placement will be determined after your qualifications are fully assessed during the interview process.
