Qualifications
  • 5-7 years full‑time experience in high voltage or industrial electrical work as a journeyman electrician maintaining and repairing facilities and equipment.
  • 3-5 years experience in a lead/supervisory capacity directing a skilled crew of electricians and communication & instrumentation technicians in a hydroelectric generating/pumping plant or related facility.
License Requirement
  • Valid California Class C Driver License.
  • Good driving record with no serious traffic violations for at least two consecutive years.
Job Description
  • Performs advanced and highly skilled electrical work in the maintenance, operation, and repair of hydroelectric facilities.
  • Monitors routine preventative maintenance programs and establishes maintenance procedures.
  • Performs emergency energy control operations and provides material requirements, technical support, and supplies.
  • Supervises electricians, communications technicians, and apprentices.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates crews of journeyman and apprentice electricians, C&I technicians, and other engaging electrical activities.
  • Supports electrical engineering with plans and details for new projects and maintains preventive maintenance (PM) procedures and scheduling.
  • Analyzes test results, provides recommendations, and implements effective, economical solutions.
  • Co‑ordinates on‑the‑job training for the apprenticeship program and performs related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge
  • Electrical theory, National Electrical Code (NEC), industrial electrical codes.
  • Methods, materials, and equipment used in the electrical trade.
  • Safety precautions for high‑voltage work (70 kV, 13,800 V, 4,160 V, 480 V).
  • Plant electrical systems, circuits, motor controls, and troubleshooting from blueprints and schematics.
  • Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Hazardous Energy Control Program.
  • Practical knowledge of confined space entry and associated safety practices.
  • Computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as Net Suite and Shepherd Systems.
Must Possess the Ability to
  • Perform journeyman‑level electrical work in hydroelectric plant systems.
  • Follow verbal and written directions and communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Use electrical test equipment and instruments for troubleshooting.
  • Create, understand, and implement Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for projects.
  • Apply knowledge of NEC, motor‑generator theory, and repair procedures, electrical circuit troubleshooting, motor controllers, AC/DC control circuits, and circuit breakers up to 13.8 kV.
  • Manage daily job‑site operations, project schedules, and job safety procedures including lock‑out/tag‑out.
  • Read and interpret equipment wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Diagnose system malfunctions and direct crew on corrective action.
  • Supervise and motivate staff, assign tasks, evaluate performance, and compile accurate reports.
  • Maintain records and establish departmental budgets, cooperatively working relationships.
  • Consistently meet scheduled and attendance requirements and work independently and cooperatively with others.
Physical Activities

Works around hazardous material, uses protective equipment, travels by automobile, operates forklifts, man lifts, powered hand tools, drill press, grinder, band saws, electrical test equipment, and other tools. Requires ability to carry, pull, reach, and lift equipment and parts up to 50 pounds, sufficient manual dexterity for daily repetitive use of hands and feet. Regularly uses telephone. Vision and hearing must meet standard requirements.

Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

Environmental Factors
  • Exposure to the sun; up to 100% work time outdoors.
  • High temperatures (80–100 °F) for extended periods; occasional hot work.
  • High humidity and wetness.
  • Work above floor level on ladders or other surfaces 4–12 ft.
  • Occasional loud noises and slippery surfaces.
  • Contact with oil, grease, and dust.
  • Irregular or extended work hours; overtime may be required.
