We’re looking for someone who already has real fire alarm experience, takes pride in solving problems correctly, communicates professionally, and wants to continue growing technically.
This is not an entry-level or helper position. You do not need to be a Senior Technician, but you should already have hands-on fire alarm experience and a solid technical foundation.
Technicians are placed within SI’s Service Technician I–III growth structure based on demonstrated skill, experience, independence, and technical ability, with opportunities to advance into Senior Technician, Inspection Specialist, Crew Lead, and other technical or leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities- Service, troubleshoot, test, inspect, maintain, and repair commercial fire alarm systems
- Diagnose system troubles, supervisory conditions, wiring issues, device failures, communication issues, and other deficiencies
- Replace and repair devices, modules, batteries, power supplies, notification appliances, initiating devices, and related components
- Use multimeters, testing equipment, wiring diagrams, manufacturer documentation, and system information to troubleshoot effectively
- Perform routine fire alarm inspections and testing according to assigned scope and applicable requirements
- Perform basic programming, configuration, or commissioning within demonstrated skill level and company authorization
- Support monitoring takeovers, system upgrades, repairs, and retrofit work as needed
- Read and interpret risers, schematics, wiring diagrams, plans, and manufacturer documentation
- Identify, clearly document, and communicate system deficiencies and recommended follow-up work
- Complete accurate digital work orders, including troubleshooting performed, work completed, photos, materials used, deficiencies, and job status
- Ensure documentation clearly communicates what occurred onsite and what happens next for the customer, office, estimator, and next technician
- Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, Service leadership, and other field personnel
- Know when to resolve an issue independently and when to elevate for additional technical support
- Take ownership of quality workmanship and minimize preventable callbacks and rework
- Maintain an organized company vehicle, tools, testing equipment, and jobsite
- Follow SI safety procedures, manufacturer requirements, applicable NFPA standards, and AHJ requirements
- Perform only work you are properly trained, qualified, certified, and authorized to perform
- Participate in the emergency on-call rotation as assigned
- Prior hands-on fire alarm experience required
- 2+ years of fire alarm experience preferred, but demonstrated technical ability matters more than years alone
- Experience with fire alarm service, troubleshooting, inspections, repairs, installation, or maintenance
- Working knowledge of low-voltage and basic electrical principles
- Ability to troubleshoot fire alarm systems using a multimeter and other diagnostic equipment
