Job Overview

We are delighted to be searching for a Maintenance Electrician to join the Site Services Engineering department based in Tranent EH33 2NE
. This permanent full‑time role involves carrying out electrical maintenance, repairs and installations under the direction of the Site Services Engineering Supervisor. The role is mainly based in Tranent and covers electrical maintenance requirements across our three sites in the Edinburgh area. It includes a varied shift pattern with evenings and an on‑call rotation.

The ideal candidate will have an 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification, right to work in the UK, a full UK driver’s licence and own transport. Salary is up to £43,000 per annum plus an on‑call allowance.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Requirements
  • Qualified electrician with a minimum of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and industry‑standard qualifications.
  • Experience working as an electrician, ideally in an industrial context.
  • Full, clean driver’s licence and own transport.
  • Ability to participate on a rotational basis in the emergency out‑of‑hours on‑call system (eligible upon successful completion of probation).
  • Possesses a methodical approach to work, employing sound risk assessment techniques.
  • Professional communication skills with internal and external stakeholders and customer‑service orientation.
  • Collaborative mindset to work effectively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team.
  • Capability to work to tight time frames.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing priorities.
  • Capacity to work at height and in potentially confined spaces.
  • Willingness to participate in overtime as reasonably required.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Electrical repair and maintenance service at Charles River Laboratories sites across Edinburgh:
    Tranent, Elvingston and Riccarton.
  • Installation of electrical and computer wiring and systems to IEE regulations.
  • Portable appliance testing and maintenance of records.
  • Maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Recording data and managing work orders in the Maximo work‑order management system.
  • Advising staff on the use of electrical apparatus and systems.
  • Altering room environmental controls settings as directed by operational departments.
  • Participating in generator testing and restarting equipment.
  • Liaising with plant maintenance requirements for on‑call duties.
  • Co‑ordinating with external vendor service engineers.
  • Maintaining legible records of work carried out, electronically and in writing.
  • Fault finding and diagnostic testing.
  • Working on high‑voltage equipment (if qualified).
