Job Overview
We are searching for a Maintenance Electrician to join the Site Services Engineering department based in Tranent, EH33 2NE
. This permanent full‑time role involves carrying out electrical maintenance, repairs and installations across our three sites in the Edinburgh area. The position is based primarily in Tranent and covers engineering requirements at Tranent, Elvingston and Riccarton. It includes a varied shift pattern with evenings and an on‑call rotation.
Salary up to £43,000 per annum plus on‑call allowance. Other benefits include a pension scheme with 8% employer contribution, private health care, employee discount schemes, volunteer opportunity, and access to a fitness suite.
Responsibilities- Electrical repair and maintenance service at Charles River Laboratories sites across Edinburgh (Tranent, Elvingston, Riccarton).
- Installation of electrical and computer wiring and systems to IEE regulations.
- Portable appliance testing and maintenance of records.
- Maintain electrical equipment.
- Record data and manage work orders in the work order management system (Maximo).
- Advise staff on use of electrical apparatus and systems.
- Adjust room environmental control settings as directed by operational departments.
- Participate in generator testing and restart equipment.
- Collaborate with plant maintenance for on‑call duties.
- Coordinate with external vendor service engineers.
- Maintain legible records of work carried out, in electronic and written form.
- Fault finding and diagnostic testing.
- Work on high‑voltage equipment (if qualified).
- Qualified electrician with minimum 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and industry standard qualifications.
- Experience as an electrician, ideally in an industrial context.
- Full, clean UK driver’s licence and own transport.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Ability to participate in the emergency out‑of‑hours on‑call system (eligible after probation).
- Methodical approach to work with sound risk assessment techniques.
- Professional communication skills with internal and external stakeholders and a customer‑service orientation.
- Collaboration mindset: work effectively within a team and independently.
- Ability to meet tight time frames.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
- Comfortable working at height and in potentially confined spaces.
- Capability to work overtime as required to ensure smooth running of the department.
