Salary: $15.86 to $19.31 per hour (prior public school experience preferred)
General SummaryThe Montessori Teacher Instructional Assistant assists in maintaining appropriate classroom activities under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher or monitors the whole group while the teacher works with individual students or small groups.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, recess, etc.
- Assists teacher with a bulletin board and other classroom learning displays as requested.
- Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
- Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of verbal communication with students.
- Assists students in the library or media center.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make‑up work as assigned by the teacher.
- Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and parents.
- Participates in in‑service training programs, as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma; previous college credit, Work Keys certification, or college degree preferred.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.
- Previous experience working with children.
- Ability to care for, supervise, and nurture children.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to assist with maintaining records of student progress.
- Excellent organizational skills.

- Duties include frequent walking and physical activity, as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying.

- Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
- Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently.
Incumbents work in outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures or inclement weather conditions, including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. The work environment includes operating around moving vehicles.
Work SchedulesMust be available to report during the school year consistent with the district’s school year calendar.
