Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) Assistant
7.5 hrs/day, Mon‑Thurs, beginning 2026/27 school year, occasional Fridays.
Location:
Courtade Elementary School, Traverse City, Michigan.
Classification: TCCAPSA, Class GSRP.
Status:
School Year, 7.5 hours Mon‑Thurs with Friday hours as required by GSRP calendar.
Directly Reports: GSRP Lead Teacher, TCAPS building Principal, Licensed Child Care Director.
General
Summary:
Provides age‑appropriate activities and services to children enrolled in the GSRP program.
- Assist GSRP students with all aspects of attending school in a traditional preschool classroom setting.
- Develop positive relationships with children, parents, staff, administration, and community members through effective written and verbal communication.
- Assist Lead Teacher with maintenance of classroom records for all students.
- Carry out educational and recreational activities indoors and outdoors.
- Provide diapering and toileting assistance.
- Maintain a clean and safe facility/playground at all times.
- Maintain discipline and report disciplinary concerns to Lead Teacher or Principal.
- Participate in planning meetings as requested.
- Implement and enforce district safety standards and behavior management techniques.
- Participate in staff‑ and professional development activities (20 clock hours per year).
- Administer children’s medication and first aid as needed and complete required documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family records.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate (18+ years), with prior experience interacting with children.
- Must obtain or be willing to obtain: an associate degree in early childhood education or child development (or equivalent); a valid Center‑Based Preschool CDA credential; current first aid and CPR training; up to 20 clock hours of professional development.
- Willingness to meet MiLEAP regulations and obtain required training.
- For cover staff, at least high school graduate required; educational requirements waived.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Frequent walking, light lifting up to 40 lbs, and ability to move around classroom and school building.
- Ability to listen, communicate orally and in writing with diverse populations.
- Critical thinking, problem‑solving, and effective interpersonal skills.
Work in indoor and outdoor school environments with moderate to loud noise, crowds, allergens, cold and hot temperatures, and uneven surfaces.
Work SchedulesAvailable to report during the school year calendar. May require irregular hours including evenings and weekends for events or professional development.
Background ChecksRequired pass a criminal history background check.
Position Type & SalaryFull Time, School Year. Salary: $18.51 to $19.42 per hour (previous public school experience).
