This is an elementary Special Education (Self-Contained) teacher posting for the 2026/27 school year. The site is at Blair Elementary School. The FTE is yet to be determined.

The starting salary is based upon the previous number of years of teaching experience. Any part-time part-time position (less than 1.0 FTE) will be prorated to the appropriate FTE.
General
Summary:
The Self-Contained Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning instruction and/or adapting the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences. The Self-Contained Special Education Teacher designs and delivers specialized instruction to maximize the academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills of students with an IEP. The teacher addresses individual student needs to foster independence, growth, and meaningful learning experiences.
The Special Education Teacher reports to the building principal.
- Develop Individualized Education Program(s) for students based on evaluation data and research-based practices.
- Collaborate with all service providers, general education teachers, and other staff to assist in providing support and documentation for the implementation and review of existing evaluation data processes.
- Log and maintain monthly Service Capture reporting requirements for Medicaid Billing.
- Maintain an electronic log to document student's goals and objectives, accommodations, and other IEP related services.
- Utilizes appropriate Crisis Prevention Techniques (CPI) to manage verbally & physically aggressive situations.
- Plans and directs the daily work of assigned support staff, ensuring all instructional practices and behavioral interventions align with student IEPs, data collection requirements, and classroom expectations.
- Builds trust and confidence with students.
- Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
- Maintains the physical environment of the classroom for organization and presentation purposes.
- Encourages good citizenship.
- Instructs individuals and groups on Special Education skill areas.
- Monitors student progress in and outside the classroom.
- Modifies curriculum as needed.
- Maintains contact with parents of students.
- Prepares report cards, education records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.
- Participates in weekly building Special Education Committee meetings.
- Administers testing evaluations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required.
- Ability to abide by all district policies and demonstrate competencies specified in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations.
- Ability to plan, prepare, and carry out engaging educational activities that promote the social-emotional, academic, and physical development of the whole child.
- Must be highly qualified in the area assigned, Special Education endorsement in EI, preferred.
- Must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate.
- CPI, CPR and First Aide certification, preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate success in area of application.
- Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
