Montessori Lead Toddler Teacher

Monday-Friday, 8.0 hours/day, school year

Full-time, school year position. 40 hours per week.

Supervision Exercised:

The Montessori Lead Toddler Teacher is responsible for supporting the assistant teachers, service providers, and volunteers in the classroom.

General

Summary:

The Montessori Lead Toddler Teacher provides instruction and supervision for the social and emotional growth of children ages 18 months through 36 months old. This position reports directly to the TCAPS Montessori Principal. The Montessori Lead Toddler Teacher is responsible for the duties described below:

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop positive relationships with children, parents, staff members, administration, and community members through effective written communication as well as verbal and nonverbal interactions
  • Supports and reinforces the goals of the Montessori program including curriculum planning and assessments.
  • Assists Licensed Childcare Director in maintaining MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations.
  • Participates in staff-development and professional development activities as offered (up to 16.0 clock hours per calendar year).
  • Meets periodically with parents to discuss progress of children. Conducts parent teacher conferences.
  • Maintains confidentiality with regard to student and family records and information.
  • Carries out educational and recreational activities both indoor and outdoor
  • Provides diapering and toileting assistance
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe facility / playground at all times
  • Attends building-level and district-level meetings as requested.
  • Participates in IEPs as requested.
  • Implements and enforces TCAPS District and building-level safety standards and behavior management techniques.
  • Administer children's medication and First Aid as needed, and complete necessary State of Michigan and District-level documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age per MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations.
  • Valid Montessori Credential Or willingness to complete a valid Montessori Credential program is preferred
  • Meets state licensing requirements for Early Childhood Center Program Administrator as defined by MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations:
  • (a) Bachelor's degree or higher in a child related field preferred - equivalent MiLEAP Child Care Licensing Program Administrator Credentials considered upon district discretion.
  • Willingness to obtain 3 semester hours, 4.5 CEUs or 45 hours of Mi Registry approved infant and toddler development and care practices within 6 months of hire
  • Demonstrated experience in child development and/or previous childcare experience.
  • Must have current First Aid and infant, child, and adult CPR training, or willingness to obtain at next available offering
  • Willing to complete up to 16.0 clock hours of professional development training per calendar year (January 1 through December 31), in addition to new hire requirements as required by MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations

    Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Duties include frequent walking and physical activity, as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property, including sitting on the floor, bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students.
  • The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with children, parents, colleagues, administrative staff and community members.
  • Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  • Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently.
  • Environmental Conditions:

    Incumbents work in indoor and outdoor school environments with moderate to loud noise levels, crowds and allergens. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures, including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students, school equipment, and office equipment.

    Work Schedules:

    Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the district's school year calendar. May require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends for school events or professional development activities.
