We are seeking a reliable, responsible individual to serve as a Long-Term Substitute Male Locker Room Supervisor for our upcoming Safety Around Water Program during the 2026/27 school year. This role is essential to ensuring a safe, orderly, and supportive environment for students as they transition between water safety instruction and locker room facilities during the school day.

• Provide active supervision in the male locker room before, during, and after scheduled swim sessions.

• Ensure student safety, maintain discipline, and enforce program rules and facility guidelines.

• Assist students with time management during changing transitions to keep sessions running on schedule.

• Maintain a respectful, positive, and secure atmosphere for all youth participants.

• Promptly report any safety concerns, student incidents, or facility issues to classroom teachers.

• Teaching experience preferred; retired teachers are strongly encouraged to apply.

• Ability to manage groups of children effectively with patience and clear communication.

• Strong commitment to child safety and positive youth development.

• Ability to pass a background check and complete required child protection training.

• Due to the physical environment and student privacy considerations, this position specifically requires a male supervisor.

• Hours: Part-time hours aligned with the Safety Around Water Program schedule (specific daily shifts provided upon interview) - Monday, Wednesday, Friday during school day (September 21, 2026 through March 5, 2027)

• Duration: Temporary / Long-Term Substitute status for the duration of the current program session.

• Location: Grand Traverse West YMCA

• Must report regularly and consistently to the assigned pool facility and locker room.

• Maintain strict punctuality to ensure required adult supervision is always present before students arrive.

• Ability to stand, walk, and move actively about the locker room setting to maintain clear sightlines and active supervision of students.

• Ability to safely navigate warm, humid, and potentially wet or slippery tile floor conditions.

• Ability to listen attentively and communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with students, school staff, aquatic instructors, and facility directors.

• Ability to rapidly recognize safety hazards, active policy violations, or behavioral issues and formulate immediate, appropriate responses.

• Ability to apply critical thinking and conflict-resolution skills to manage student behavior and maintain an orderly environment.

• Ability to work effectively, calmly, and decisively in high-noise, fast-paced, high-activity, or potentially stressful situations.

• Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 20 lbs, such as swim gear, bin supplies, lost-and-found items, or bench equipment.

• Ability to travel to designated district pool or facility locations as assigned.

• This is an active, physical assignment set in a public pool locker room environment.

• The environment regularly features high humidity, warm temperatures, echoes, high noise levels from groups of students, and damp or slippery flooring.

• Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the Safety Around Water Program's specific daily schedule. Arrival times require prompt presence prior to student bus arrival.

• The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check fingerprinting process, and all district-required child safety/protection training prior to beginning work.
