Welding Engineer | Traverse City, MI

Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and qualify welding procedures for new products and processes.
• Provide technical support and expertise to production welding operations.
• Conduct root cause analysis of welding defects and implement corrective actions.
• Evaluate and recommend new welding equipment, technologies, and materials.
• Collaborate with design engineers to ensure weldability and manufacturability of components.
• Perform welding process audits and ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in welding processes (e.g., GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW) within a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104).
• Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
• Experience with root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for welding defects.
• Strong understanding of material science, metallurgy, and their impact on weld quality.

Bonus Qualifications

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
• Experience with robotic welding systems and programming
• Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and interpretation
• Project management experience in a manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD) for fixture design and analysis
