Job Description:
Under direction of the Family Court Judge and Family Court Administrator, plans and provides juvenile services to divert youth from becoming involved in the juvenile justice system, and attempts to address emotional and behavioral concerns by utilizing community resources. This position specializes in community outreach and coordinates community service programs for all youth under Court supervision.
Employees must meet the minimum requirements, conditions of employment, and be able to successfully perform all essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
This position may require irregular hours. It may also require travel by the employee in the employee's own vehicle. May be required to work on-call in an emergency.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities (May Include But Are Not Limited To The Following):
- Provides preventative services to juveniles and families who have been referred to the Grand Traverse County Diversion Program. Includes support group facilitation.
- Coordinates with and makes referrals to community resources to provide services to youth in diversion.
- Performs intake and assessment of referred youth.
- Develops diversion contracts with youth and their families.
- Monitors and works with the youth and families on fulfilling diversion contracts.
- Maintains contact with school personnel.
- May be required to testify in court proceedings.
- Carries a probation caseload as needed in special circumstances.
- Compiles and prepares data and statistics on the diversion program.
- Coordinates community service programs for all youth in diversion and under court jurisdiction
- Assists the Probation Officers with coordinating activities, reports, and case management of program participants.
- Reports directly to the Senior Probation Officer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Formal Training, And Experience (Minimum Requirements)
- Bachelor's Degree (Master's Preferred) in social work, criminal justice, psychology or a related human services field.
- More than 1 year experience working with juveniles
- Required training shall be completed within six months of hire.

A background check will be required initially and periodically for an individual hired, transferred, reclassified, promoted, or currently working in this job. Appointment to or continued employment in this job is contingent upon a satisfactory background check which may include but is not limited to: confirmation of a persons' identity; review of criminal conviction records; verification of educational degree, license, or certificate required for the position;
review of Department of Motor Vehicles records;
Department of Justice fingerprint scan; and/or drug and alcohol testing as required and allowable by law. A satisfactory background check is defined as the absence of a criminal history record which bears a demonstrable relationship to the applicant's or employee's suitability to perform the required duties and responsibilities of the position.
May be required to serve in an "on-call" capacity.
