Yard​/Warehouse Rep

Based in northwest Michigan, Northern Building Supply operates two full-service lumber yards and is the region's premier supplier of premium building materials to contractors and homeowners. In addition to top-quality lumber, we distribute a wide range of high‑end specialty products including windows, doors, cabinets, decking, and interior and exterior trim.

• Receive, stock, ship, order, and count inventory items.
• Operate a forklift safely to stock lumber and building materials.
• Participate in a positive work environment and assist warehouse associates and supervisors in maintaining an organized workspace.
• Empty trash receptacles and keep bays and staging areas clean.
• Receive incoming products, commodities, and materials.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Count and record receipt of materials.
• Stock all material received in appropriate bins or storage locations.
• Assist inventory control in counting and organizing warehouse materials.
• Comply with all company policies and guidelines.
• Operate forklift with foot and hand controls; may use it to build outgoing orders or load completed orders onto delivery equipment.
• Operate facility equipment as necessary (e.g., bander, power tools, various hand tools).
• Monitor inventory as required by location management.
• Maintain awareness of the work environment to produce error‑free and damage‑free results.
• Participate in and complete assigned trainings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
• Adhere to the company’s commitment to workplace safety.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required.
• Ability to do basic math, read orders, write instructions, and complete forms.
• Willingness to learn to read a tape measure.
• Effective and professional communication with customers, employees, and supervisors (verbal and written).
• Ability to deal constructively with conflict and recognize potential problems.
• Proficiency with or willingness to learn current technologies (smartphone, inventory control systems, and other necessary business applications).
