Overview

Steel Tool is committed to its 4-Zone Quality implementation through increased quality presence and support at the point of occurrence. The Zone Inspector works closely with Team Leads and Product Quality Engineers to identify, contain, and resolve quality issues throughout the manufacturing process. This position supports calibration activities, performs roaming inspections, provides gage training, conducts point-of-occurrence audits, and identifies opportunities to improve inspection techniques and overall product quality.

Quality Inspection

  • Perform roaming inspections throughout assigned production zones.
  • Monitor product quality and compliance to requirements.
  • Identify quality concerns at the point of occurrence and initiate containment activities.
  • Conduct audits to verify adherence to quality standards and procedures.

Calibration & Gage Support

  • Assist with gage calibration activities.
  • Verify proper use and condition of measuring equipment.
  • Support gage management and calibration compliance.
  • Assist in developing and improving gage use instructions.
  • Provide gage training and support to production personnel.
  • Identify opportunities to improve inspection methods and quality processes.
  • Support implementation of inspection and process improvements.
  • Promote quality awareness throughout assigned areas.

Problem Solving & Team Support

  • Work closely with Team Leads and Product Quality Engineers to investigate and resolve quality issues.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Escalate recurring quality concerns as appropriate.
  • Assist in maintaining a strong quality presence on the manufacturing floor.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Manufacturing, quality, inspection, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gages.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Must know GD&T
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Team Leads, Product Quality Engineers, and production personnel.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gages.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the production facility for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to perform detailed visual inspections.

Primary Objective

Increase quality presence on the manufacturing floor by supporting calibration activities, performing inspections and audits, improving inspection techniques, providing gage training, and partnering with Team Leads and Product Quality Engineers to resolve issues at the point of occurrence.
