Lead Mechanic

GFL Environmental is seeking a Lead Mechanic to oversee maintenance and repair of our fleet at a busy environmental services facility. In this role, you'll perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and ensure vehicles and equipment are safe, compliant, and ready for daily operations. You will lead and mentor mechanics, prioritize work orders, coordinate with operations, and maintain accurate service records.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day maintenance and repair of fleet trucks and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operations
• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
• Perform and schedule preventive maintenance according to company and regulatory standards
• Mentor and guide mechanics, assigning tasks and reviewing quality of work
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts usage in maintenance systems
• Coordinate with operations to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime
• Inspect vehicles and equipment for safety and environmental compliance
• Support implementation of safety programs and enforce safe work practices in the shop
• Assist with parts inventory management and vendor coordination
• Recommend improvements to maintenance processes and equipment reliability initiatives
