Project Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to oversee the financial aspects of assigned projects from initiation through completion. This individual will work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to track costs, manage budgets, process invoices, and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with construction or project-based accounting experience who enjoys working cross-functionally in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets
- Ensure expenses are properly coded and tracked against budgeted amounts
- Monitor job costing and phase coding accuracy
- Process subcontractor and vendor invoices
- Track trucking and material tickets to ensure proper coding to project phase codes
- Monitor subcontractor and vendor compliance requirements
- Prepare monthly client progress billing packets in accordance with contract terms
- Generate weekly and monthly project financial reports
- Analyze budget variances and project profitability
- Partner with Project Managers and Engineers to forecast labor, material, and equipment costs
- Identify and mitigate potential budget overruns
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2-5 years of experience in project accounting, job costing, or general accounting
- Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Prior experience in construction, engineering, or government contracting preferred
Compensation for this role at Vaco/Highspring is based on skill set, experience, location, and other factors. The role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses. Benefits include medical, dental, vision coverage and a 401(k) retirement plan.
