Library Assistant / Page – Youth Services Department - Part-Time

Hours:
Shelving hours are:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 to 6 p.m.

Desk shifts are:
Fridays from 1 to 6 p.m. and one Saturday a month from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additional weekend and substitute hours as mutually agreeable.

Position Summary:
The Library of the Chathams seeks a motivated individual to join our team as a part-time Library Assistant/Page. Reporting to the Youth Services Department Head, the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for staffing the Children’s Room, assisting children and caregivers in finding books, shelving and maintaining the order of library materials, and ensuring an inviting and organized environment for patrons.

Responsibilities:

• Shelve returned materials accurately and efficiently.
• Read and organize shelves to maintain proper order.
• Empty book drops and secure them as directed.
• Assist in the Children’s Department as needed, including:
  • Charging and discharging library materials.
  • Answering and routing telephone calls.
  • Providing basic assistance to patrons.
• Monitor building conditions, including stacks, restrooms, and meeting rooms, and report any issues.
• Perform related duties as assigned to support library operations.

Qualifications:

• Attention to detail and ability to alphabetize and organize materials accurately.
• Dependable and punctual.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Customer service experience preferred.

Rate of Pay: $15.49 per hour
