The Axel Group is seeking a Construction Superintendent to join our client’s team out of Essex County, New Jersey. This well‑established firm specializes in the civil construction of roadways and bridges. The Construction Superintendent will oversee day‑to‑day field operation and play a critical role in ensuring infrastructure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.

• Monitor active construction sites to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, drawings, specifications, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
• Oversee roadway and bridge construction activities, ensuring proper sequencing, quality control, and adherence to project specifications
• Develop, maintain, and manage project schedules by preparing detailed short‑term plans and ensuring all work activities are completed on or ahead of planned milestones
• Participate in meetings with clients, owners, inspectors, and engineers to provide progress updates and address project‑related concerns
• Supervise subcontractors and self‑performed crews to ensure compliance with contract terms, safety standards, quality expectations, and schedule requirements
• Review and understand extra work and change order billing formats; update project budgets to accurately reflect owner‑approved changes
• Collaborate closely with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager to develop construction means and methods that improve safety, reduce costs, optimize equipment utilization, enhance schedule efficiency, and ensure clear and effective communication with the client
• Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate daily reports documenting site activities, manpower, equipment usage, production rates, and overall progress

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required
• 5‑7+ years of experience working as a Superintendent on civil infrastructure projects, specifically roadways and bridges
• Strong knowledge of civil construction practices, including earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, and structural components
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and schedules
• Proven ability to manage subcontractors, coordinate inspections, and maintain productivity in an active construction environment
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Commitment to jobsite safety and regulatory compliance
• Experience working on public‑sector or DOT projects is highly preferred
