Pure Gym is expanding rapidly across the Eastern Seaboard of the US, and we’re looking for a dynamic Construction Manager to spearhead the successful construction of our gyms from real estate site handover through to grand opening.
In this role, you will manage all aspects of project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, and vendor coordination. A critical component of this position is the ability to develop and manage a bench of trusted external project professionals (architects, engineers, general contractors, specialty vendors, etc.) while seamlessly collaborating cross-departmentally to ensure delivery timelines align with marketing, operations, IT, and procurement. This position will report into the Head of Construction, who may task the Construction Manager with new sites, existing asset management refurbishments, or a mix of both.
The ideal candidate will have the attitude of “No project is too big, or too small!”
- Effective Project Management:
Utilize robust project management methodologies to ensure all construction projects are consistently delivered on time and on budget, maintaining the highest standards of quality and financial discipline. - Cost Management & Partner Accountability:
Rigorously track all invoices, pay applications, and change orders to eliminate scope creep while acting as a fierce advocate for Pure Gym's financial interests. When confrontation or tough conversations with external vendors and general contractors are required, this person must be willing to fight for every project to stay strictly within its cost parameters. - External Bench Management:
Identify, onboard, and manage a robust bench of localized external project professionals, consultants, and general contractors to ensure scalable growth and high-quality delivery. - Cross-Departmental Delivery:
Lead and manage delivery timelines cross-departmentally, coordinating with Marketing, IT, Operations, and Procurement to ensure a seamless handoff for gym openings. - Timeline & Scheduling:
Develop and maintain strict project schedules, ensuring alignment with aggressive national rollout timelines and targeted club opening dates. - Documentation & Compliance:
Manage critical project documentation, including RFIs, BIDs, submittals, change orders, permitting, and landlord approvals. - Risk Mitigation:
Actively identify and resolve project risks, supply chain delays, and coordination challenges across multiple simultaneous sites. - Closeout & Handoff:
Oversee the final project closeout process, including punch lists, final documentation, and smooth turnover to the Club Operations team.
- Experience:
5+ years of experience as a Construction Manager or Project Manager, ideally with a scaling corporate retail brand. - Sector Expertise:
Strong experience managing commercial tenant buildouts, commercial remodels, and/or fitness / retail rollouts. - Vendor Management:
Proven ability to source, qualify, and manage a network of external consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors. - Stakeholder Alignment:
Exceptional communication skills with a track record of driving cross-departmental timelines and managing multiple internal and external stakeholders. - Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of commercial construction processes, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) requirements (crucial for fitness clubs), and reading construction drawings/contracts. - Multitasking:
