Part-Time Coordinator of Sacred Music and Worship
The Coordinator of Sacred Music & Worship is responsible for assisting the Pastor in preparing for and overseeing the liturgical life and accompanying music for the Church of St. Isaac Jogues in Marlton, New Jersey. They are responsible for assisting the Pastor in building a comprehensive program of music ministry that supports the Parish’s Catholic heritage and helps the parishioners sing, pray, and worship more fully and actively.

As the Coordinator of Sacred Music & Worship, candidates will be a key part of bringing beauty and inspiration to our worship life ac Jogues. This part‑time position (approximately 7-10 hours per week) provides an opportunity to share passion for Catholic music and liturgy, working alongside the Pastor to create a truly vibrant and engaging experience for the parish community. Candidates will bring their creative vision to bear, assisting in the development of specific liturgical and musical goals that will deepen our worship and strengthen our faith.
The role requires an understanding of the profound role music plays in prayer and involves nurturing the Parish Choir, welcoming new voices and supporting our talented musicians. Candidates will play a vital part in selecting and playing music for our seasonal liturgies, and collaborating with the Parish’s clergy and staff to elevate the overall offerings of song, prayer, and worship that enrich our lives and connect us to the heart of our faith.
Duties and
Responsibilities Include:
- Providing musical and/or vocal accompaniment for Weekend and Holy Day Masses, including hymns, preludes, postludes, and special selections. It is understood that the candidate is available for a minimum of three Masses per week, as well as a majority of Holy Day Masses. Vacation/leave time can be negotiated.
- Recruit and work with other vocalists and musicians and provide feedback for them as needed to ensure the quality of their performances.
- Work with the Pastor to craft an appropriate repertoire of regular hymnody, and actively seek to update that library of appropriate sacred music and liturgical resources on a regular basis while working with the Parish’s congregation to introduce new music for more active participation.
- Assist the Pastor in planning and executing various annual Parish liturgical celebrations including, but not limited to, Holy Hour Devotions, Holiday Masses, Advent/Christmas Season, Lent/Easter Season, Corpus Christi Processions, and the like.
- Recruit, organize, direct and rehearse the Parish Choir. The schedule is negotiable, but it is preferred that they sing regularly at 11AM each Sunday.
- Meet with couples as they plan their Wedding Mass/Ceremony and provide insight as to appropriate selections for music.
- Provide musical and/or vocal accompaniment and scheduling of singers for Funeral Masses.
- Provide occasional catechesis on Sacred Music for the Parish community, i.e., bulletin articles, Flocknote newsletters, presentations, and the like.
- Collaborate with staff members (ie: Coordinator of Religious Education) to plan and implement sacred music and liturgical directives as they relate to their areas of ministry.
- Coordinate with other music ministers, e.g. Director of Children’s Choir.
- Coordinate regular tuning and maintenance of the Parish's instrumentation including the organ and pianos.
- Provide for his/her own spiritual and professional growth by pursuing continuing education and professional development in Sacred Music and Liturgy, especially with regard to Diocesan sponsored meetings and events.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate is a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church and a joyful, faith-filled disciple.
- Professional competence in organ and piano, along with vocal performance and proficiency in the reading of music.
- A bachelor’s degree in music, sacred music, liturgy, or the equivalent is desired.
- Experience and enthusiasm for offering varied Roman Catholic music and liturgical traditions.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Previous experience as a Music Director for a Catholic parish or equivalent position is preferred, though not required.
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with others.
- Must provide (or obtain prior to employment) clearances required by the State of New Jersey and the Diocese of Trenton.
- Basic computer skills for music notation software (e.g. Muse Score, etc.) a plus.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is between $33,000 and $37,000.
