Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Youth Development, the Associate Program Director will be responsible for managing select activities associated with our Arts & Humanities, Scouting, Youth and Family events, and Camp Programs at our Somerset Hills YMCA, including the administration of these programs to ensure that they create opportunities for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Essential Functions:

Arts & Humanities

  • Supervise assigned Arts & Humanities instructors and oversee daily program operations.
  • Hire, train, onboard, and coach instructors.
  • Assist in developing new programs in response to community and member needs.
  • Manage registration processes, program supplies, outstanding payments, and monthly draft reviews.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support member and guest satisfaction.
  • Oversee the Adaptive Program in partnership with the Adaptive Coordinator to ensure inclusive programming and appropriate participant support.

Camp – Enrichment & Performing Arts

  • Supervise counselors within assigned units and support daily camp operations.
  • Participate in staff hiring, training, and ongoing development; complete seasonal evaluations.
  • Support lesson planning, weekly special events, and themed activities.
  • Utilize camp management software to communicate with families and generate reports.
  • Ensure campers understand rules, schedules, and expectations.
  • Maintain proper use, care, and organization of equipment and supplies.
Scouting Programs (Girl Scouts & Scouting America)
  • Coordinate Girl Scout Patch and Merit Badge programs, including workshops, supplies, and recruitment.
  • Provide administrative support including registration, participant database management, and promotional materials.
  • Develop recognition and engagement initiatives for participants.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for scouting programs.
Youth & Family Events
  • Birthday Parties
  • Coordinate events from inquiry through completion, including scheduling, staffing, payments, and supplies.
  • Communicate with families and staff to ensure safe, high-quality experiences.

Family Nights & Kids Night Out

  • Plan and coordinate monthly and special events, including staffing, supplies, and logistics.
  • Communicate schedules, updates, and event details to families and staff.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in education, Recreation, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years’ experience directing youth programming with a focus on School Age Child Care and Summer Camp.
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Must have flexibility to work a non traditional work schedule with expectations to work evenings and some weekends.
  • Has solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel as well as good administrative skills.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
