This entry level, union represented position provides lots of opportunity to grow and develop your cataloging, metadata and indexing skills to support collection discovery for researchers using the New Jersey State Library collections. Researchers include all three branches of state government; students, staff and mentors of Thomas Edison State University;
New Jersey public libraries; and the general public. You will be assigned special collections for which you will be the primary cataloger. You will develop your metadata skills to support growing digital collections. You’ll be assigned special projects related to various collections, requiring established procedures and coordination with section heads. You may be assigned subject specific collections in which you identify and order print and eBook titles.
You should be tech savvy and thrive with the use of digital tools.
Here are examples of the type of work you might do:
- Provide original and complex copy cataloging using OCLC, Marc Edit, RDA, LCSH, LCC and more.
- Create authority records at the national level
- Manage quality control for bibliographic and authority metadata with Horizon, DSpace and other discovery tools
- Participate in digital projects to promote unique library collection
- Take responsibility for budget of assigned collections
- Prepare reports for users and administrators
- Education: A Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey college Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University.
- License: Possession of or eligibility for a valid New Jersey certification as a Professional Librarian.
