Librarian 1 - Reference and Legal Research

This entry level, union represented position provides lots of opportunity to grow and develop your reference and research skills by working with all three branches of state government; students, staff and mentors of Thomas Edison State University;
New Jersey public libraries; and the general public. On a regular basis you will provide research assistance across many subject areas including business, New Jersey history, law, and more. You will have assignments in projects related to our growing digital collections. You should be tech savvy and thrive with the use of digital tools.

Here are examples of the type of work you might do:

• Provide general reference and legal research service to all the communities served by the New Jersey State Library, using a full range of print and electronic resources
• Create basic bibliographic records for digital content and upload documents to our online repository
• Identify, order and maintain print and electronic resources in subject specific areas
• Participate in projects to promote unique library collections
• Contribute to website content through blogs, digital exhibits and more
• Develop training and presentation materials to instruct users on print and electronic collections
• Creatively engage users with research guides (Lib Guides) to enhance discoverability of resources
• Prepare reports for users and administrators

Education: A Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey college Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University.

License: Possession of or eligibility for a valid New Jersey certification as a Professional Librarian.

“Good Faith” Salary, Range, or Rate of Pay

Salary Range:$58,222.21 To $84,763.38 Annually
