Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking Psychiatrists Per Diem for multiple vacancies statewide, based from Trenton, NJ. The Psychiatrist will provide direct clinical care to state prisoners, function collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, and maintain effective communication with staff and administration.
- Provides assessments, direct clinical care and treatment planning to inmates.
- Conducts comprehensive psychiatrist assessments (reviewing electronic records, psychotropic medications, history of mental illness, prior psychiatric hospitalization, suicidal, unusual or bizarre behavior) for new admissions to UCHC’s Special Needs roster according to established time frames.
- Is knowledgeable about and follows DOC and UCHC policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, emergency and non-emergency forced medication, management of potentially suicidal inmates, psychiatry services, and therapeutic restraint.
- Orders, initiates and interprets laboratory tests according to required time frames or as medically necessary, including metabolic monitoring, mood stabilizer blood levels, thyroid function, AIMS testing, and other appropriate biochemical monitoring.
- Prescribes and renews medications that are deemed medically necessary within required time frames.
