Network Security Engineer

Our client in Northern NJ is seeking a Network Security Engineering consultant. This position is hybrid and requires to be onsite 3 days a week in the office. Local candidates only/NO RELOCATION.

The Network Security Engineer will play a key role in designing, securing, and optimizing enterprise network environments across global, hybrid infrastructures. This role focuses on strengthening security posture through Zero Trust principles, enhancing cloud and on-prem connectivity, and driving automation to support a scalable, resilient, and secure technology ecosystem.

• Design, implement, and secure scalable network solutions across cloud and on-prem environments
• Enhance and maintain security controls within the Zscaler platform (ZIA, ZPA, ZDX) and Check Point firewalls
• Support Zero Trust initiatives and contribute to the continuous improvement of network security architecture
• Optimize hybrid connectivity across global environments, including cloud, data center, and remote access
• Leverage automation tools to streamline network operations, configuration management, and monitoring
• Improve observability and incident response through enhanced logging, dashboards, and alerting
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including cloud, security, infrastructure, and application teams—to deliver secure, high-performance network services
• Troubleshoot complex networking and security issues across multi-cloud and distributed environments

• Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience with the Zscaler security platform (ZIA, ZPA, ZDX)
• Strong experience enhancing and managing security controls in Zscaler and Check Point
• Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts in AWS and Azure
• Core networking knowledge at or above CCNA level (routing, switching, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, etc.)
• Experience supporting hybrid or multi-cloud network architectures
• Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python, or similar)
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

• Experience with Zero Trust architecture design and implementation
• Exposure to SD-WAN, SASE, or cloud security frameworks
• Knowledge of identity-aware networking and integration with IAM platforms
• Certifications such as Zscaler ZCCA-IA, ZCCA-PA, CCNP, AWS/Azure networking certifications, or equivalent
