• Salary: $48–58 per hour (commensurate with skills and experience)
• Contract position – 12 months, 35‑hour week, predominantly remote with once‑monthly in‑person meetings in Trenton, NJ.
The New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF) Office of Data Management and Reporting seeks two Business Intelligence Developers (Consultant) to support data‑driven decision‑making across the Department. The role focuses on developing interactive dashboards and reports using Tableau, with opportunities to work with Power BI.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain interactive Tableau dashboards and visualizations.
- Create ad‑hoc reports based on stakeholder requirements.
- Ensure dashboards meet accessibility and usability standards.
- Optimize existing Tableau workbooks for performance.
- Support Power BI report and dashboard creation as needed.
- Assist with transitioning reports between platforms when required.
- Connect to various data sources (cloud data warehouse, databases, spreadsheets, APIs).
- Perform data cleaning, transformation, and validate data accuracy and report integrity.
- Document data sources, definitions, and business logic.
- Work closely with researchers, program staff, and stakeholders to understand BI needs.
- Participate in team meetings and planning sessions.
- Provide user support and training on dashboard functionality.
- Communicate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Maintain clear documentation of development processes.
- Follow established BI and data visualization best practices.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field; or
- Associate’s degree with 1–2 years of relevant BI/data visualization experience; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Tableau Desktop.
- Basic understanding of data visualization principles and best practices.
- Proficiency with SQL and Python for data querying and wrangling.
- Comfort working with Excel and data manipulation.
- Familiarity with relational databases.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Problem‑solving mindset and willingness to learn.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience with Power BI (reports, dashboards, DAX).
- Exposure to data warehousing concepts.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis or data science tools (R, Python).
- Tableau Desktop Specialist certification.
