Job OverviewThe Registered Nurse is expected to ensure the delivery of safe and quality patient care. Perform, adapt and safely demonstrate procedures required by patients according to policies and procedures. Document according to policies and procedures and demonstrating technical skills specific to the nursing unit.
QualificationsRequired
- Current New Jersey RN license
- ASN or Nursing Diploma (Must agree to complete BSN within 5 years of hire date)
- BLS and ACLS
- A minimum of 1 year of recent clinical Oncology experience
- Excellent communication skills, leadership ability, time management and problem-solving skills

Job Duties
- Triages high-volume incoming patient telephone calls within an ambulatory oncology setting, utilizing clinical assessment skills, established symptom management guidelines, and oncology-specific protocols.
- Assesses and manages treatment-related toxicities and symptom concerns; provides evidence-based guidance and escalates urgent or complex cases to the provider as appropriate.
- Delivers comprehensive patient and caregiver education regarding chemotherapy, immunotherapy, supportive medications, and potential side effects to promote safe treatment adherence.
- Coordinates medication prior authorizations, specialty pharmacy communications, and prescription renewal to ensure uninterrupted oncology treatment plans.
- Completes and processes disability, FMLA, and related medical documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.
- Performs phlebotomy and supports clinic-based procedures as indicated to facilitate timely patient care and treatment flow.
- Documents all clinical interactions, assessments, and interventions accurately in the electronic medical record in accordance with institutional, state, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, infusion services, and ancillary departments to promote continuity, safety, and quality of care across the oncology continuum.
- The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
- The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
- The Registered Nurse is an individual practitioner and the interdisciplinary team manager, utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient’s needs.
