Safety Consultant, Owner's Representative – Data Center Construction
Duration: August 24, 2026 – May 31, 2028 (Estimated)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Approximately 50 hours per week
Compensation: $65.00–$75.00/hour (based on qualifications) plus overtime at 1.5x. Includes 120 hours PTO, retention bonus, travel reimbursement, and per diem for eligible travelers.
Position Summary
ISS is seeking an experienced Owner's Representative Safety Consultant to support one of the largest hyperscale data center developments currently underway in southwest Ohio. This long-term assignment requires a highly experienced construction professional with hyperscale data center experience who can represent the owner's interests while partnering with the Construction Manager and General Contractor to improve safety performance and execution.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience with large-scale data center construction, excavation and trenching operations, and owner representation or construction management consulting. This individual must possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and the confidence to influence project teams while recognizing when issues require escalation to senior project leadership.
Project Overview- Campus: Four hyperscale data center buildings with onsite electrical substation and supporting infrastructure
- Campus Size: Approximately 141–145 acres
- Building Area: Approximately 900,000 square feet
Current construction activities include significant site development, trenching, excavation, underground utilities, and earthwork, making excavation safety expertise critical during this phase of the project.
Primary Responsibilities- Represent the owner's safety expectations and project interests in the field.
- Develop strong working relationships with Construction Management, General Contractor, and project stakeholders.
- Monitor construction activities with an emphasis on excavation, trenching, underground utilities, and high-risk operations.
- Identify safety concerns and proactively influence corrective actions before incidents occur.
- Communicate effectively with contractor leadership and owner representatives regarding project risks.
- Escalate significant safety issues, trends, or non-compliance to appropriate management.
- Participate in safety meetings, project walks, incident reviews, and planning sessions.
- Review contractor safety performance and verify implementation of corrective actions.
- Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and field engagement.
- Prepare clear and professional written reports documenting observations and recommendations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the project lifecycle.
- Minimum 5 years of construction management, owner's representative, or construction consulting experience.
- Demonstrated experience supporting hyperscale or mission-critical data center construction projects.
- Extensive knowledge of trenching, excavation, and underground utility construction safety.
- Strong understanding of OSHA construction standards and industry best practices.
- Experience working directly with owners, construction managers, and general contractors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build credibility and influence project teams through field presence and professional relationships.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to recognize when issues require management escalation.
- Previous experience serving as an Owner's Representative or Owner's Safety Consultant.
- Experience supporting projects managed by major construction management firms.
- CSP, CHST, ASP, OSHA 500/510, or other recognized safety credentials are preferred.
- Experience on large-scale industrial, mission-critical, or utility infrastructure projects.
- Competitive hourly pay: $65.00–$75.00/hour (based on qualifications and experience)
