Ameri Corps Member Position
The Ameri Corps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands-on History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences.
As capacity allows, the Ameri Corps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.
Terms of Service
- The Member will serve at the Trinidad History Museum.
- The Ameri Corps member will serve for an average of 20 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 900 hours over the course of their service term.
- Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly.
- The Ameri Corps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager.
- Service term begins September 8, 2026 and ends August 20, 2027.
- Mandatory Orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver.
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Facilitate educational outreach such as: field trips, classroom visits, and other interactive educational activities.
- Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
- Lead tours and engage visitors by sharing site-specific and historical information.
- Provide front-line visitor support, including answering questions, offering information about exhibits and programs, and enhancing the overall visitor experience. Represent the museum at community and school events such as parent-teacher conferences, resource fairs, and farmers markets to promote program offerings.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the ongoing improvement of educational initiatives.
- Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed.
Service Term Overview:
- March–May:
Assist with spring educational programming, including camps, field trips, and outreach activities. - May–August:
Support Summer Camp with prep, facilitation, and clean-up.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
- 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
- Ability to pass criminal history checks.
- Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
