Who We Are:

Trinidad State College, located in Trinidad, Colorado, is a state-supported, two-year institution of higher education. The College was established by an act of the State Legislature in 1925 and is the oldest public two-year college in the State of Colorado. The College’s Service Area includes eight rural counties characterized by low population density and small communities. One campus is located in Trinidad and is a residential campus while the other, located in Alamosa, is a commuter campus.

Both campuses serve distinct populations. As a comprehensive Community College, Trinidad State College not only offers ongoing transfer Associate of Arts Degree and Associate of Applied Science (vocational) Degree programs but also has developed and implemented numerous successful short-term vocational certificate programs, and totally inclusive adult education and developmental programs.

Job Summary:

Trinidad State College seeks a highly motivated, student-centered Psychology faculty member to join a dynamic and innovative academic community. The faculty member is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in psychology and related behavioral science courses; supporting student success through advising, mentoring, and engagement; contributing to curriculum development and assessment; and participating in college, community, and accreditation activities. The successful candidate will be committed to serving a diverse student population and advancing the mission of Trinidad State College through excellence in teaching, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

This position is modeled on current Colorado Community College System faculty expectations and psychology faculty responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning
  • Teach psychology and related behavioral science courses within established faculty workload guidelines.
  • Deliver instruction through face-to-face, hybrid, online, synchronous, and asynchronous formats as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, assignments, assessments, and learning activities aligned with approved curriculum and student learning outcomes.
  • Utilize evidence-based instructional practices that promote student engagement, critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and application of psychological principles.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate student records in accordance with college policies.
  • Incorporate current research, technology, and emerging practices in the field of psychology into instruction.
Student Success and Advising
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and provide mentoring to students.
  • Assist students with academic success strategies.
  • Support student retention, completion, and transfer initiatives.
  • Participate in orientation, recruitment, registration, and outreach activities.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and student services staff to address student needs and remove barriers to success.
Curriculum, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in curriculum development, revision, and program improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure course quality, rigor, and transferability.
  • Engage in assessment of student learning outcomes and use results to improve teaching and program effectiveness.
  • Participate in program review, accreditation, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative instructional approaches and educational pathways that support student achievement.
College and Community Engagement
  • Serve on college committees and participate in shared governance activities.
  • Attend department, division, college, and professional meetings.
  • Develop partnerships with local school districts, universities, behavioral health organizations, community agencies, and employers.
