Job Statement

To perform efficient construction, operations, and maintenance work on either energized or de-energized lines and substation equipment while adhering to safety policies.

Essential Functions
  • Efficient Construction Work.
    • Constructs overhead and underground power line in accordance with the NESC and RUS guidelines and Association safety policies.
    • Operates Association equipment in a safe and efficient manner to construct overhead and underground lines.
    • Operates substation equipment and interpret data from it.
    • Installs overhead and underground equipment on lines.
    • Reads and interprets staking sheets.
    • Connects all transformer configurations.
    • Attends and participates in all Association safety meetings.
  • Performs Quality Maintenance Work.
    • Inspects facilities for loose hardware, damage and violation of modern construction standards and correct deficiencies.
    • Utilizes tools to provide the best results when work is completed.
    • When possible, observes Association facilities during daily travel to find broken or loose hardware.
    • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
    • Performs switching procedures as necessary to facilitate operations.
    • Maintains minimum material inventory on service vehicles.
    • Must be proficient in operations of a personal computer to utilize digital mapping software.
  • Maintains Member Relations.
    • Work with members to address concerns when construction affects the member.
    • Reviews outages to determine cause if outage is Association problem, promptly respond to determine cause of outage.
    • Utilizes troubleshooting procedures to determine the cause of outages and corrective action to restore service.
    • Disconnects service, or reconnects service as directed.

    Minimum Job Specifications Education/Experience

    High school diploma or equivalent is required

    Job Knowledge
  • Must develop working knowledge of utility systems, construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining control is required.
  • Must develop thorough knowledge of RUS construction units and standards.
  • Must be able to read and interpret staking sheets.
  • Must be able to climb a pole with standard line worker equipment.
  • Physical Demands

  • Outside weather conditions with occasional inside office work.
  • Frequent work under inclement weather conditions will be required.
  • Exposure to weather conditions above 100F and below 32F can be expected.
  • Occasional work outside normal working hours may be required.
  • On-call rotation will be required.
  • Occasional day and overnight travel may be required.
  • Medium work requiring exertion of up to 50-75 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force more frequently. Lifting and carrying 10 to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Reaching and lifting overhead is required.
  • Must be able to use hand tools and other equipment to complete work.
  • Exposure to dust and dirt.
  • Hazards include working at heights, electrical and radiant energy.
  • Use and knowledge of safety equipment required and provided.
  • Certificates/Licenses

    Must have completed a Department of Labor certified line worker apprenticeship program

    Must be able to obtain and maintain valid CDL Class A license
