SCHOOL BUS DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license and a CDL license
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid school bus driver’s permit if applicable.
  • Pass DOT Drug Screen and Mandatory Drug Testing
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Must pass a physical as required to meet current rules
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current first aid/CPR card
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record
  • Must be versatile to the varying demands of the local district
  • Must be able to read and comprehend the “Rules and Regulations Governing the Operation of School Transportation Vehicles.”
  • Must be able to deal with students, employees, and citizens of the community in a friendly and tactful manner
  • Pass annual CDE written, driving, pre-trip tests and annual MVR check.
  • REPORTS TO

    The superintendent and/or principal as needed.

    JOB GOAL

    Assume and perform the duties of school bus driver as directed by the Board of Education and administration. Assume the responsibility to develop and maintain a relationship with other personnel, parents and students that is harmonious and productive.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate a school transportation vehicle in accordance with DOT, Commercial Drivers Regulations, Colorado Motor Vehicle Code, CDE Operational Rules, ECSD Transportation policies and emergency procedures and FCC Regulations
  • Any such procedures will outline a general routine to be followed and will provide a framework within which all designated personnel can function efficiently in the performance of their duties.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school vehicles.
  • Possess a high level of responsibility for the safety of students on the bus and maintain discipline at all times.
  • Communicate, in a timely manner, with parents and staff regarding issues of student welfare.
  • Keep assigned bus clean.
  • Keep to assigned schedule.
  • Become familiar with and observe the “Rules and Regulations Governing the Operation of School Transportation Vehicles”.
  • Conduct Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections as prescribed.
  • Report mechanical failures, etc. as prescribed.
  • Conduct emergency evacuation drills as prescribed.
  • Keep a daily mileage record as prescribed.
  • Complete any other such forms as prescribed.
  • Renew licenses, endorsements and certifications as required by Federal and State law.
  • Assume and perform the duties of school bus driver as directed by the Board of Education and/or administration.
