Heavy Civil Superintendent – Public Works
Location: Troutdale, OR
Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 base + bonus
A well-established heavy civil general contractor seeks an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations on public works infrastructure projects throughout the Portland metro area and surrounding regions. This role focuses on large-scale municipal and DOT work, including roadway, bridge, and underground infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all on‑site construction activities for public works and heavy civil projects
- Oversee field execution of roadway, utility, and infrastructure scopes
- Coordinate with project teams, inspectors, and public agencies to ensure compliance
- Maintain and drive project schedules in line with contract requirements
- Enforce strict safety standards and ensure adherence to OSHA and agency regulations
- Manage subcontractors, field personnel, and equipment resources
- Identify and resolve field challenges related to logistics, phasing, and site constraints
- Ensure work meets quality standards, plans, and public agency specifications
Experience Needed
- 5‑10+ years of experience in heavy civil / public works construction
- Proven track record managing DOT, municipal, or federally funded projects
- Strong experience with roadway construction and reconstruction
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm) within public rights‑of‑way
- Structural or bridge‑related scopes (preferred)
- Mass excavation, grading, and civil earthwork
- Experience working within prevailing wage and publicly bid project environments
- Background coordinating with inspectors, agencies, and stakeholders
Qualifications Required
- Strong understanding of public works specs, standards, and compliance requirements
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple moving parts and stakeholders
- Strong leadership and communication skills across field teams and external partners
- Experience enforcing safety policies in regulated job site environments
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to regional project sites
