JOB TITLE: Cosmetology Teacher - CTE
In addition to the job summary and essential qualifications listed below, this teaching position is specialized to teach high school students in cosmetology. The position requires a secondary level teaching license accompanied by the appropriate CTE endorsement or 2,000 hours of industry/field experience to qualify for enrollment in the CTE licensure/endorsement program.
Job SummaryThe job of a teacher is to develop students’ academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum and/or appropriate presentations of courses of study; documenting teaching and student progress; addressing specific academic needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
CTE ResponsibilitiesEmployees who teach within an ODE approved Program of Study are required to have special expertise applicable to the educational program(s) assigned. These courses require a high degree of knowledge, skill, and experience in industry standards. The instructional leader works with other teachers, industry partners, students, and families to develop a high-quality program of study in cosmetology. CTE teachers give input on the allocation of their funds, develop partnerships for work-based learning opportunities, embed employability skills into course content, and align the knowledge and skills from class to post-secondary opportunities.

A teacher performs the following tasks: plans instruction, establishes a classroom climate conducive to learning, implements plans for instruction, evaluates student achievement, and directs instructional assistants, all for the purpose of providing successful instruction and learning.
- Develop and implement curriculum for entry-level positions, keep it up to date, and teach job-readiness skills.
- Select and write learning goals based on district outcomes and BEO directives.
- Determine current achievement levels and set objectives for units of instruction.
- Establish and maintain a classroom climate that provides a safe, optimal learning environment.
- Analyze student achievement data to refine curriculum and plan further instruction.
- Direct instructional assistants, supervise their tasks, and ensure safety and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with teachers, school personnel, parents, and community agencies to implement curriculum and improve student outcomes.
- Work with industry partners to provide regular work-based learning opportunities.
- Assist other personnel as required to implement curriculum and support their work activities.
- Participate in meetings such as parent conferences, in-service training, and site meetings.
- Experience
Required:
Prior success in related teaching experience, including student teaching, and knowledge of federal and state mandates for career technical education. - Skills: Ability to motivate students, communicate with diverse individuals, direct support personnel, and evaluate performance.
- Knowledge: Age-appropriate teaching methods; state and district curriculum standards; credit and grading requirements; instructional subjects.
- Abilities: Perform specialized tasks, maintain records, establish cooperative working relationships, meet schedules and deadlines; physical abilities include mobility, lifting, reaching, hearing, near and far vision.
- Education Required: University degree in education and/or Oregon teaching license requirements.

Certifications:
Oregon teaching license with CTE endorsement for Cosmetology or sufficient industry hours;
Oregon fingerprint and criminal check clearance;
First Aid and CPR certificates.

Salary: $59,642 to $111,957 Per Year
