Chemistry Specialist
The Chemistry Specialist is responsible for recruiting high school science teachers to participate in AMSTI/ASIM, implementing a flexible communication system for scheduling labs, preparing activities/labs and supplies, submitting weekly itineraries to the ASIM Project Director, delivering activities/labs to teachers, providing on‑site support and mentorship, assisting with laboratory activities, delivering professional development, coaching teachers, coordinating with AMSTI site, organizing supplies, planning workshops on AMSTI/ASIM activities and other science education topics, collaborating on new lab activities, attending statewide meetings, managing financial reports and program reporting, communicating regularly with AMSTI directors and administrators, maintaining the AMSTI vehicle, and assisting with development and piloting of new activities.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree in a related field
- Valid Alabama Certificate in Secondary Science Education
- Minimum of five years of high school level teaching experience in Chemistry
- Valid state driver’s license
- Ability to learn background content, utilize the activities/labs, and communicate information to students and teachers
Standard office hours, 40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours as needed.
Physical Demands- Move activities/labs and supplies from storage to vehicle to classroom
- Drive the AMSTI/ASIM vehicle
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Driving is a primary responsibility, utilizing personal or university vehicles.
