Assistant Professor
The School of Social Sciences at Troy University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Political Science to teach courses in American Politics. The anticipated start date is August 2026. We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Political Science or Government to support the growth and development of our Political Science major and associated student organizations. Doctoral candidates who are ABD and near graduation will also be considered.
If hired, the candidate will be responsible for teaching 12 credit hours per semester (4/4 teaching load) in a combination of face-to-face and online undergraduate courses focused on American national government, legislative politics, executive politics and bureaucracy, political methodology, and other advanced subjects within their expertise. We highly encourage applicants whose research focuses on any of the following areas, including, but not limited to: legislative politics, campaigns and elections, executive politics, and the separation of powers.
The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda, mentor and advise students, and provide service to the department, college, university, and community. The successful candidate will also support the growth of the Political Science major and involve undergraduate students in research opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Political Science or Government
2. Research specialization in American Politics studies.
3. Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Political Science or Government
2. Demonstrated or potential excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses that will be delivered on site and online.
3. Strong secondary specialization in political science that will complement our existing faculty strengths.
