Assistant Professor

The Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminology at Troy University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to teach courses in Anthropology and Forensic Science. The anticipated start date is August 2026. We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Forensic Anthropology/Archaeology, Forensic Science, or a closely related field to support the growth and development of our popular Forensic Science minor and our Anthropology program.

Doctoral candidates who are ABD and near graduation will also be considered. If hired, the candidate will be responsible for teaching 12 credit hours per semester (4/4 teaching load) in a combination of face-to-face and online undergraduate courses focused on forensic investigation, anthropological methods, osteology, and other advanced subjects appropriate to their expertise. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to use equipment at the University's Center for Materials and Manufacturing, as well as in a new forensic laboratory space that includes an active dermestid beetle colony.

We highly encourage applicants whose research specializes in any of the following areas, including, but not limited to: forensic archaeology, forensic anthropology, forensic entomology, etc. The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda, mentor and advise students, and provide service to the department, university, and community. The successful candidate will also support the growth of the Forensic Science program and related laboratory spaces.

Forensic casework experience and progress towards board certification is preferred.

In Class Teaching Percentage - 50%

Online Teaching Percentage - 50%

Minimum Qualifications - 1. Ph.D. in Forensic Anthropology/Archaeology, Forensic Science, or closely related field (applicants who are ABD and near graduation will also be considered). 2. Ability to teach in both face-to-face and online environments.
3. Ability to conduct scholarly research, publish peer-reviewed work, and seek out grant funding in the area of specialization.

Preferred Qualifications - 1. Previous experience in developing forensic science curriculum.
2. Evidence of casework and/or prior experience working in an investigative role.
3. Progress towards ABFA certification.
