Material Technician
Kimber Mfg., Inc. is seeking a Material Technician for their Troy, AL facility. This non-exempt, hourly position falls under the Shipping or Warehouse department and reports to the Shipping or Warehouse Supervisor.
The Material Technician is responsible for providing required materials to meet production goals and maintaining the accuracy of inventory records in the ERP system. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams and other departments to support quality goals.
Essential duties include:
- Filling material requests by picking parts from the warehouse and moving them to assigned locations
- Moving non-conforming parts to proper holding areas
- Maintaining control and inventory accuracy of serialized products
- Ensuring material is properly tagged and adjustments are made as needed
- Maintaining accuracy of parts inventory records by entering transactions in the ERP system and performing cycle counts
- Expediting parts from Production, Purchasing, QC, and other Kimber Warehouses
- Working with Planning, Engineering, and QC to control inventory for ECNs, testing, and recalls
- Performing housekeeping duties including waste disposal, cleaning, and other shipping and warehouse cleanup tasks
- Operating hand trucks, carts, dollies, forklifts, and other equipment to transport items
- Communicating effectively with supervisors about productivity-affecting matters
- Troubleshooting problems and developing corrective actions
- Adhering to and monitoring standard operating procedures
- Learning the nature and functionality of products being handled
- Accurately inputting required data into the manufacturing database
- Completing other duties as assigned by the manager
Qualifications for this role include:
- Proper material handling and inventory control in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work in a high-volume manufacturing environment
- Maintaining accurate cycle counting
- Experience performing computerized inventory transactions
- Cross-functional team builder with professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of multitasking
- Experience working independently with little supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education and experience requirements include:
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Vocational/Technical Degree (Preferred)
- Material Handling Equipment Certification (Preferred)
- Computer/Software proficiency (Preferred)
- Lean manufacturing experience (Preferred)
Mathematical and reasoning abilities are also required, including:
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
- Ability to collect and document data
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to perform complex and varied tasks
- Ability to perform simple, repetitive tasks for an extended period of time
Required computer skills include:
- MS Excel and MS Word using MS Windows platform
- MS PowerPoint and MS Access experience (a plus)
- Familiarity with email, ERP, and Computerized Inventory System
Other skills and abilities include:
- Regular, consistent, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently
The work environment is moderate in noise level, and employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Personal protective equipment will be used frequently. Working outdoors may occur occasionally.
Physical requirements include:
- Ability to talk or hear
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
- Frequently lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to see clearly 20 feet or more, distinguish different colors, and adjust focus
